Ingredients
  

  • Chicken
  • 1 lb chicken breasts cut into bite-sized pieces

Marinade Ingredients

  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1 tbsp garam masala
  • 1 tbsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Butter Chicken Sauce

  • 1 tbsp butter unsalted
  • 1 cup tomato puree
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions
 

  • In a large bowl, combine the yogurt, garam masala, cumin, turmeric, coriander, and lemon juice. Add the chicken pieces and mix to coat. Marinate for at least 15 minutes, or up to overnight in the refrigerator.
  • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add the tomato puree and bring to a simmer. Let it cook for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  • Stir in the heavy cream and season with salt and black pepper. Let the sauce simmer for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until thickened to your liking.
  • Serve the butter chicken with steamed rice or naan, and garnish with fresh cilantro.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of fenugreek leaves to the sauce. Adjust the spice levels according to your taste by adding more chili powder or hot sauce.
