  • 2 large tomatoes sliced
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves whole
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tbsp balsamic glaze optional
  • 1/4 tsp salt or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper freshly ground

Instructions
 

  • Wash the tomatoes and basil thoroughly. Pat them dry with a clean towel.
  • Slice the tomatoes and mozzarella evenly, about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Arrange the slices on a serving plate, alternating between tomato and mozzarella slices, with a basil leaf tucked between each layer.
  • Drizzle olive oil evenly over the top, followed by balsamic glaze if desired.
  • Season lightly with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  • Serve immediately as an appetizer or side dish.

Notes

For a modern twist, add avocado slices or a sprinkle of pine nuts. Use heirloom tomatoes for added color and flavor depth.
