Instructions
Wash the tomatoes and basil thoroughly. Pat them dry with a clean towel.
Slice the tomatoes and mozzarella evenly, about 1/4 inch thick.
Arrange the slices on a serving plate, alternating between tomato and mozzarella slices, with a basil leaf tucked between each layer.
Drizzle olive oil evenly over the top, followed by balsamic glaze if desired.
Season lightly with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Serve immediately as an appetizer or side dish.
Notes
For a modern twist, add avocado slices or a sprinkle of pine nuts. Use heirloom tomatoes for added color and flavor depth.
