Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy.
Add the eggs, one at a time, and mix well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 9-11 minutes or until the edges are golden and the centers are set. The cookies will continue to cook as they cool on the baking sheet.
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Store leftover cookies in an airtight container for up to a week. They also freeze well for longer storage.
