- 1 cup flour
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 unbeaten egg
- 1/3 cup butter melted
Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare the Cherries: In a bowl, mix the cherries with 1/4 cup sugar, reserving the remaining 1 cup of sugar for later.
Transfer to Pan: Pour the cherry mixture into a greased 8x8-inch baking dish.
Make the Topping: In a separate bowl, combine the flour, the remaining 1 cup sugar, baking powder, salt, and the unbeaten egg. Stir until the mixture is well blended and crumbly.
Top the Cherries: Sprinkle the crumbly mixture evenly over the cherries.
Add Butter: Pour the melted butter over the topping.
Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the cherries are bubbling.
This Easy Cherry Crisp can be made with either fresh or frozen cherries. If you're using frozen cherries, remember to thaw them first and drain any excess juice.
Adjust the sugar level mixed with the cherries depending on how sweet or tart they are. You can add more or less sugar based on your preference.
For a variation, substitute margarine for butter if desired.
What I love about this recipe is its simplicity! Other than the cherries, all the ingredients are pantry staples: flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, egg, and butter.
To make this dessert even more indulgent, serve it with a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream (perhaps try my Grandma's recipe!). Whipped cream or Cool Whip also pair beautifully with it.
